NDUS reviews presidential pay and vaccine mandates

By Doug Barrett Dec 10, 2021 | 8:53 AM

The latest court ruling on vaccine mandates will at least temporarily pause vaccine requirements on North Dakota college campuses.
Earlier this week a district court judge in Georgia stopped the Biden administration from enforcing a COVID-19 shot requirement for employees of federal contractors.

NDUS Attorney Eric Olson told board members this week that he has advised campuses that were implementing mandatory vaccine programs to suspend those programs pending resolution of the legal cases.

Olson says there is one remaining federal mandate for Head Start programs which could impact some workers at Mayville State University. That deadline for compliance doesn’t arrive until the end of January.

The Board of Higher Education also wants to know if the college and university presidents in the system are being paid enough.

The Board wants to hire a firm to do a salary survey of other, comparably sized institutions. But so far, no firm has applied, because of the time of the year and vendor availability.

Tim Mihalick chairs the Board’s budget and Finance Committee. He says Board member Jeffry Volk will be working with system staff to gather salary data.

NDSU and the North Dakota College of Science are looking for new Presidents.

Mihalick says the Board will re-issue its “Request for Quotation” after the first of the year, to see what firms might be available to do a more general salary survey, and what they would charge for it.
