Saint Xavier release:

Travis Brewster has been named the head coach for the Saint Xavier University women’s basketball team and will be the third head coach in the programs 21-year history. Brewster comes to Chicago after serving as an assistant coach the past two seasons for the Idaho State University women’s basketball team. He helped guide the Bengals to a 22-4 record last season, the Big Sky Conference Tournament Championship and an appearance into the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament. Brewster takes over a team that finished 17-4 in 2020-21 and has won back-to-back Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season championships.

Before joining the ISU coaching staff, Brewster was the head coach for the women’s basketball team at University of North Dakota for eight seasons (2012-20), guiding the Fighting Hawks to a 128-120 record. He led UND to a pair of Big Sky Conference (BSC) in 2013-14 & 2016-17, as well as the BSC Tournament Championship in 2013-14 and an NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament appearance. Brewster was named the BSC Coach of the Year twice for the Fighting Hawks in 2013-14 & 2016-17. He served as an assistant at UND for nine seasons and was a graduate assistant for the UND men’s basketball team in 2001-02.

Brewster played collegiately from 1990-93, playing two seasons at Iowa Lakes Community College and helping the Lakers go 49-12 before transferring to Charleston Southern University. In two seasons with the Buccaneers, Brewster was a two-time defensive MVP (most valuable player) and was named a team captain his senior year. He played professionally overseas for three years after playing at CSU.

“Coming to Saint Xavier University is a blessing and privilege. Everybody at SXU is truly genuine and welcoming. Time to get started and continue the legacy here. The process that Athletics Staffing & Consulting, Dr. Kurt Patberg, Kevin Forde Interim Director of Athletics and Kenyan Alston Associate Director of Athletics made this all possible. Thank you to my family and their support, also ISU Director of Athletics Pauline Thiros, head coach Seton Sobolewski & team. They all have truly been a part of this journey and it’s great to get the support and belief to move forward.” said Brewster.

Saint Xavier (0-0, 0-0 CCAC) starts the 2021-22 season on Friday, November 5, in Bourbonnais, Ill. when they play Morningside College (Iowa) in the CCAC/GPAC Challenge at Olivet Nazarene University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
