Dogs replace fries at Potato Bowl event

By Doug Barrett Sep 17, 2021 | 8:27 AM

The lure of free hot dogs and chips brought people out to University Park in Grand Forks last night (Thursday).  The size of the crowd was much smaller than previous Potato Bowl feeds that featured free French fries.

The company that provided the spuds opted out this year due rising COVID numbers.  J.R.  Simplot called it a difficult decision but a step to ensure the health and safety of customers…employees…and community.  It was the second year in a row that the so-called French Fry Feeding Frenzy was cancelled.

The Potato Bowl committee decided to move forward with a different event featuring hot dogs and potato chips.   Around four-thousand hot dogs were readied for consumption under the brand “Potato Bowl in the Park.”

With fewer people turning out it was a no wait line for hungry participants.
