What could have been a nearly $1.2 million dollar bill for Polk County has been whittled down to less than 42-hundred dollars.
The numbers represent a property tax challenge by Enbridge Energy. The courts ruled that Minnesota overvalued the oil company’s tax assessments from 2012-2016. A total of 13 Minnesota counties would have been on the hook to the tune of some $27 million dollars.
Polk County Assessor Mark Landsverk says the legislature approved grants to help counties impacted by the tax refund. He says the end result leaves the county with a potential tax bill of only $4,148 dollars.
