Following a regular-season NCHC championship, five University of North Dakota players were named to the All-National Collegiate Hockey Conference Teams, announced Wednesday. Headlining the group were first-teamer Jordan Kawaguchi and second-team player Matt Kiersted, while Colton Poolman, Westin Michaud and Adam Scheel were all honorable mention selections.

Kawaguchi has vaulted himself squarely in the middle of Hobey Baker Award consideration for the top player in college hockey after his breakout junior season. He currently sits second in the NCAA in points (45) and primary assists (23). He leads the conference in points, primary assists, game-winning points, multi-point games and is sixth in goals with 15. His five game-winning goals are also top five in the country.

Kiersted has been a steady influence on the blueline for North Dakota and recently, he's seen an uptick in his offensive numbers. In his last 12 games, the Elk River, Minn., product has piled up 15 points (4G, 11A), tied for fifth-most in the country among defensemen and second-most in the conference. For the season, he has 29 points with a half-dozen goals and 23 assists.

Michaud transferred to UND for his final year of eligibility and has immediately elevated to the top of the scoring numbers. The Cloquet, Minn., native came over from Colorado College and has led UND in scoring (16 goals), tied for second in the conference.

Poolman is now a three-time All-NCHC performer after honorable mention nods each of the past two seasons as well. The two-time captain returned for his senior season, leading the Fighting Hawks to its third Penrose Cup and first since 2016. On the season, the East Grand Forks, Minn., native has four goals and 13 assists and 35 blocked shots.

Scheel's 2.07 career goals against average is currently the best in school history. He has 19 wins to his credit this year and a similar 2.07 GAA for the season. He was an NCHC All-Rookie Team honoree last season and has made 26 starts this year, helping UND to an NCHC regular season championship and the No. 1 spot in the Pairwise heading into the playoffs.

North Dakota (26-5-4) hosts the NCHC quarterfinal series against Colorado College this weekend at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
