Potato Bowl Changes

Officials on the Potato Bowl USA Committee have decided to move the Simplot Potato Bowl French Fry Feed inside, to the Hyslop Sports Center Arena on the UND Campus. This will prevent the event from being canceled for the second straight year because of rain. The National Weather Service puts the chance of rain in Grand Forks on Thursday at 100%. Last year was the first time the event had ever been rained out. This will also mark the first time the event has ever been held indoors.

“The committee greatly appreciates the cooperation from the University of North Dakota to make this happen on short notice. They are a great partner with the Valley’s potato industry, and this is just another example,” said Ted Kreis who handles advertising and communications for the event.

Communication spokesman Ted Kreis says there will be some scaling back, but "we will still have many of the same attractions including bounce games, a magic show, meet the Fighting Hawks football team and coaches and of course the World’s Largest French Fry Feed!”

The French Fry Feed will start at 4:00 PM on Thursday (September 12th) and run until approximately 8:00 PM. Attendees are asked to use the northeast entrance to the Hyslop Sports Center. Limited parking will be available adjacent to the arena beginning at 4:00 PM with the majority of spaces available in the lot just north of the arena along University Avenue.

The record for the largest single service of French fries is 8,154 pounds of spuds.

The forecast has forced the cancellation of the AgCountry Fireworks Show that was scheduled at Memorial Stadium after the French Fry Feed.
