Schools across North Dakota are experiencing a shortage of substitute teachers - partially because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grand Forks has felt the pinch as well.
Many substitutes are retired teachers.
Stacy Geiger is the human resource manager for the Bismarck Public Schools. Geiger says many of the substitutes now have “interim” substitute licenses.
In addition student teachers can sub with 48 college credits. Governor Burgum has also signed an executive order lifting a ten day consecutive limit for teaching in a classroom.
Other districts are utilizing paras to help fill the classroom void.
The Grand Forks School Board will get an update on the first two weeks of the school year when they meet tonight. The meeting begins at six p-m.
