Utility rates would climb just over 2% in Grand Forks next year under a preliminary 2019 budget plan presented to members of the city council last night. Under the scenario water rates would jump 3.5% for residential users…2% for commercial customers….and 1.5% for industrial ratepayers. City Administrator Todd Feland says the rate plan tries to follow a cost of service formula. He says increased usage is typically tied to residential demand.
Feland says for large users the current water rates in Grand Forks are competitive within the region.
The budget freezes wastewater rates….calls for a 2% bump for storm water fees…and a 4%increase in garbage rates for most single family residential users.
Overall the 2.13% increase will bump the average residential bill next year by just under two-dollars per month.
