With the current road construction season winding down the city of Grand Forks is already turning its attention to next year.
The city council this week approved bids for a concrete pavement repair project on North Washington from 8th Avenue North to Gateway Drive - and over the English Coulee.
Opp Construction submitted the apparent low bid at $1.4 million dollars. The work includes rehabbing the roadway by replacing cracked and broken panels…dowel bars…and pavement grinding.
The project became a casualty of the downtown DeMers reconstruction which came in 32-percent over engineer estimates. The Dakota DOT says wasn’t enough money to do both in 2019.
State and federal funds will pay the bulk of the bill with the city share estimated at just over 125-thousand dollars.
Plans are underway to reconstruct a stretch of Columbia Road from the overpass to north of University Avenue. The council is on board with a preliminary engineering services agreement on the $6.3 million dollar project. The engineering agreement with K-L-J will cost over 266-thousdand dollars.
Federal funds on the project will be capped at $4.37 million dollars. The local share would be around $1.9 million dollars.
According to a staff report the stretch of road is projected to carry 24,600 vehicles per day by 2040.
The reconstruction is scheduled to take place in 2021.
