EGF Liquor Laws

East Grand Forks may consider relaxing the restrictions on liquor license ownership. Existing law prohibits a license holder from having a second on-sale license in a separate location. The city has been approached by more than one business owner about a potential ordinance change. Several council members questioned why the city placed the limit into law in the first place. City Attorney Ron Galstad says it may have been to prevent monopolies - but he doesn't know what the council intent was at the time.
One business owner inquiring about the ordinance is River Cinema’s Bob Moore. Moore says he’ working on a business plan that would allow movie-goers to enjoy a beer...or drink...while watching a movie on the big screen.
The council took no action during last night’s work session - but seemed receptive to making a change.
