EGF couple charged with tax crimes

An East Grand Forks couple has been charged with multiple tax crimes.
According to the Minnesota Department of Revenue, the Polk County Attorney’s Office charged Bryan and Katie Edvall, with five gross misdemeanor counts each of failing to file individual income tax returns.
Bryan Edvall is also charged with five felony counts of failing to file individual income tax returns.
The complaints say the Edvalls failed to file individual tax returns from 2014 through 2018. The Edvalls allegedly owe more than $42,600 in income tax, penalty, and interest.
Each tax-related felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
Each tax-related gross misdemeanor charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a $3,000 fine, or both.
