U.S. Senator John Hoeven says he has made some progress on the issue of surveillance and extending the hours of operation at some entry ports in North Dakota.
Hoeven says he addressed the issue of ports along the U.S. – Canadian border in a conversation with U.S Customs and Border Protection officials this week. Hoeven says he secured a commitment from Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz to deploy a mobile surveillance tower in western North Dakota. He says he hopes to see additional progress on operation hours in the coming weeks.
The senator says the limited hours at northern ports force travelers to go far out of their way in order to cross the border – costing significant time…money…and worsening the supply chain constraints facing the nation.
