An attorney with ties to a federal agency that reviews national security implications of foreign investments in U.S. companies told the Grand Forks city council last (Tue) night that the agency has shown an interest in the proposed Fufeng corn milling project in north Grand Forks.
Attorney Bridget Reineking works with the Committee on Foreign Investments in the U-S (pronounced “SEE-fee-us”).
Reineking suggested that the city ask Fufeng to allow CFIUS to review its local land transactions.
She said CFIUS could find that the project is not in its jurisdiction. Or, if concerns arise, a longer review may result.
Citizen concerns about the project include environmental issues, annexation and the fact that the parent company has ties to China.
