U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer is recovering from a serious injury to his right hand. Cramer says he suffered the injury while doing yard work over the weekend.
The North Dakota Republican says the mishap required immediate surgery. He says there is a risk of infection and the possible need for amputation of a finger.
Cramer is said to be resting at home in North Dakota and monitoring the Senate business closely while staying in contact with colleagues and staff.
In a prepared statement Cramer says he hopes to return to Washington after the Independence Day holiday and will be doing a lot of left-handed fist bumps.
