EGF eyeing kayak boat launch

By Doug Barrett May 20, 2022 | 9:05 AM

LaFave Park in East Grand Forks will be adding a kayak launch to its list of amenities later this summer. The city council approved spending some $44,000 dollars on the floating dock system.

The bulk of the bill will be paid through a grant from the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trail Commission. The local share on the match will be $11,033 dollars.
According to a staff report the dock will be located south of the existing boat ramp and will be similar to those already installed in Thief River Falls…St. Hilaire…and Crookston.

Mayor Steve Gander says he’s a fan of the plan.  “I am here to tell you if you haven’t been in a kayak on the river you don’t know what you are missing.  It’s a great way to see our riverbanks.”

A final site review will take place once river levels recede.
