Retired Brigadier General Al Palmer dies

Retired Brigadier General of the North Dakota Air Guard and UND Aerospace Director of Flight Operations Al Palmer has died.  Family members say Palmer passed away Tuesday night.

General Palmer began his military career with U.S. Air Force enlisted service beginning in 1972.  He spent 30 years at the UND John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences.  During his career Palmer accumulated more than 9,400 hours of flying time, of which over 5,900 were as an instructor pilot.

Palmer was also instrumental in the development of the Veterans Memorial Park in south Grand Forks.

Palmer had recently been hospitalized with COVID complications.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
