The Minnesota Twins have traded catcher Drew Butera to the Los Angeles Dodgers for either a player to be named or cash.
The deal was done right before the non-waiver trade deadline on Wednesday afternoon.
Butera was the backup to Joe Mauer for most of the last three seasons, but he has spent all but the last week with Triple-A Rochester this year. When Mauer was out on paternity leave, Butera appeared in two games.
Alex Gordon hit a two-out triple in the seventh inning and then scored the go-ahead run for Kansas City on an error by Minnesota, and the Royals won their eighth straight game with a 4-3 victory over the Twins on Wednesday night.
