For the first time in its NCAA Division I era, the University of North Dakota athletics department saw every one of its varsity sports record a team semester grade point average of 3.0 or greater. Overall, UND's 357 student-athletes-- including former athletes working on degree completion-- charted a combined Spring GPA of 3.221.

"Having all teams reach a 3.0 semester GPA was the goal for our academic support staff and department as a whole," said Andres Freeman, Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services. "To have this done for the first time in the D1 era is remarkable. Our athletes work so hard in the classroom every semester that it's incredible to see an accomplishment like this play out. Their dedication to the "student" side of student-athlete is evident and showcases academic achievement for our University."

Among the highlights included 20 percent of the total pool of student-athletes (357) achieved a perfect 4.0 in the Spring (70). A whopping 73 percent of all UND student-athletes had Spring term GPAs at 3.0 or above.

Leading the way in terms of highest team GPA was the women's cross country squad with a combined 3.617 grade point average. On the men's side, golf's 3.285 GPA set the pace for male teams.

UND can now claim 22 consecutive semesters with a combined grade point average at 3.0 or higher.
