Seventh-year head coach Travis Brewster announced his team's 2018-19 schedule as the UND women's basketball team makes its move to The Summit League this season. The full slate includes a dozen home games and 31 total games, including big-name games against Syracuse, Penn State and Iowa State, among others.

"This schedule will test our team's leadership, veteran play and our new players, top to bottom," Brewster admitted. "Playing Syracuse to start-- one of the most prepared teams in the country-- is tough. Penn State is a strong BIG 10 team and Iowa State is always in the mix in the Big 12.

Those three power conference schools headline a schedule that has some tough mid-major schools packed in as well. Squeezed between the Syracuse (Nov. 6) and Penn State (Nov. 21) games are road tilts against Valparaiso (Nov. 11) and Illinois State (Nov. 14) in an opening month that won't see a regular season home game until a Dec. 7 date against Milwaukee-- eight games into the season.

Following the trip to State College, Pa., UND will make another swing out East to face Rhode Island and UMass. Northern Iowa is the final leg of that gruelingly-long road stretch to start the regular season. The non-conference portion wraps up with a Dec. 9 trip to Ames, Iowa for the Cyclones then a home date against Mayville State on Dec. 12 and a three-game tournament at Stetson Dec. 19-21.

"This kind of schedule will be good for us as we go into a stiff Summit League schedule," Brewster said. "South Dakota State and South Dakota are both reloaded and we will be learning as we go in this conference against some new teams. Our two in-state games against a very familiar opponent will be exciting."

The Summit League schedule was announced a few weeks ago with a 16-game slate that culminates in an eight-team tournament in early March, hosted by the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Notes

*North Dakota boasts a 12-6 all-time mark against The Summit League schools in Division I play. Head coach Travis Brewstersports an 11-6 mark against his new league foes.
*11 games against postseason teams from 2017-18 (3 NCAA, 7 WNIT, 1 WBI)
*UND has not been shy about playing power conference schools-- North Dakota has played 16 in the six seasons under coach Brewster
*The Fighting Hawks will play three games in three days at Stetson (Dec. 19-21), marking the first time they will play three in three since joining Division I.

*UND has fared well in back-to-back games/multi-day tournaments. North Dakota won both at UTSA's Thanksgiving tournament last season (vs. Lamar, at UTSA) and won both at the 2014-15 Preseason WNIT at Towson (vs. St. Francis, at Towson)
