Continuing to bring top programs on the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level to Grand Forks, University of North Dakota athletic department officials have announced a trio of home-and-home nonconference series with three former Big Sky Conference rivals as well as another showdown with Pac-12 Washington in Seattle through the 2025 season.
“We’re excited about this future schedule,” said UND Athletics Director Bill Chaves. “All of these games gives us the opportunity to better understand what our schedule is going to look like over the next five-to-seven years. There is still more work to do, but we are moving closer towards our scheduling goals.”
UND’s premier matchup will once again take place in Seattle as the Fighting Hawks will battle Washington on Sept. 16, 2023 from Husky Stadium. This will mark the second trip to the Emerald City for the green and white, dropping a 45-3 decision last season. In that contest, UND held the three-time All-Pac-12 Team member Myles Gaskin to his lowest rushing output of the season, 53 yards, and the future Pac-12 Champions and Rose Bowl participants to just 24 points through three quarters.
Despite making their Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) debut in 2020, the Fighting Hawks won’t have to wait long to renew old rivalries with Big Sky Conference foes as UND will travel to Portland State on Oct. 24, 2020 in the first of a scheduled home-and-home series. The Vikings will make a return trip to Grand Forks on Sept. 6, 2025 where UND will look to make it five straight wins over PSU at the Alerus Center.
A trip to Pocatello, Idaho awaits UND on Sept. 4, 2021 for a showdown with Idaho State before the Bengals invade the Alerus Center on Sept. 14, 2024. The two teams will play at Holt Arena on Oct. 12 of this season, a place that the Fighting Hawks have enjoyed success in their history by winning all four contests there since 1965.
UND’s scheduled home-and-home series begins on Sept. 17, 2022 in Flagstaff, Ariz. as the Hawks and Northern Arizona will meet for the eighth and ninth times in program histories. The contest in 2022 will the UND’s next chance to collect its first win at the Walkup Skydome in school history before the Lumberjacks return to Grand Forks on Sept. 9, 2023. UND and NAU have played in some classic matchups over the last few seasons, most famously when the Hawks erased a 17-point deficit over the final two quarters to win the 2016 Big Sky title.
