First-year head men's basketball coach Paul Sather announced a trio of recruits that have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the University of North Dakota. The three prospective student-athletes, who will join the Fighting Hawks for the 2020-21 season, hail from South Dakota, Minnesota, and Illinois.

· Lettered four seasons in basketball and one season in soccer at Central High School in Aberdeen

· Named to the 17U All-Dakota First Team by Prep Hoops

· Helped Central reach the state basketball finals as a freshman

Coach Sather on Bergan:

“Andrew is a long and lanky, 6-7 win that handles the ball like a point guard. Versatile player on both ends of the floor with a great feel for the game. We are so excited for the ceiling he brings.”

Nate Shockey | G | 6-3 | Elmhurst, Ill. | York HS

· Averaged 12 points per game as a junior to help lead York HS to a school-record 29 wins and a Class 4A Regional title

· Knocked down 40 threes as a junior

· Named to the 2018-19 West Suburban All-Conference Team

· Selected to the DuPage County All-Area Team as a junior

· Captured Jack Tosh All-Tournament honors after helping York to a title

· A three-time academic honor roll selection and National Honor Society member

· Named as one of the five Chicago-area 2020 basketball players to watch by the Chicago Sun Times

Coach Sather on Shockey:

“We love what Nate brings to the Hawks. He is a tough, gritty guard that is a proven winner. Great range from beyond-the-arc and competes on both sides of the ball.”

Tyree Ihenacho | G | 6-4 | Prior Lake, Minn. | Prior Lake HS

· Helped Prior Lake win a program-best 25 games as a junior, reaching the Section 2AAAA title game

· Finished fourth on the team with 9.2 points per game behind a pair of now-collegiate players

· Added 4.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game

· Reached double figures in 13 games, including a pair of 20-point outbursts

· Named as one of the top prep players in 2020 by the Star Tribune

Coach Sather on Ihenacho

“So excited about adding Tyree to the Fighting Hawk family. A dynamic guard that brings a combination of size, speed, and a tremendous skillset to the court. He is a fantastic young man.”

North Dakota returns to the court on Sunday for a road showdown vs. Valparaiso at 1 p.m.
