UND introduces Chaves as new athletic director

UND officially welcomed Bill Chaves as its next athletic director during a news conference Tuesday.
Chaves, 51, becomes the 16th A-D in school history and will take over for Brian Faison who is retiring.
Chaves says he’s excited about the challenge. He says his future decision-making will be based on several key factors.
"You have to have a lens," he said. "And my lens is, when something walks into my office, I say, is it good for the student-athlete? Is it good for the department? Is it good for the University? Is it good for the state? And that keeps you grounded because many, many things are going to come through that office. And if you're not grounded, you want to make sure the very first thing is, is it god for the student-athlete?"
Chaves has been A-D at
Eastern Washington since 2007. Faison will serve as a special advisor to UND
Athletics through the end of June.
