University of North Dakota Associate Head Soccer Coach Chris Citowicki as been named the head coach at the University of Montana, it was announced by Montana on Monday.

Citowicki joined the North Dakota coaching staff prior to the 2017 season and promptly helped guide the team through its most successful campaign since joining the Big Sky Conference in 2012. Citowicki, head coach Chris Logan -- the 2017 Big Sky Coach of the Year -- and assistant coach Danielle Mendez engineered a four-win improvement for the Fighting Hawks in their first year at the helm of the program. UND finished the year with a 6-8-4 overall record and a 4-5-1 conference mark, while leading the Big Sky in fewest goals allowed (16).

Citowicki came to UND after having completed his sixth season as the head coach of the Division III program at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. Under his guidance, St. Kate’s produced its first ever all-region and academic all-region players, in addition to three All-MIAC players, 10 All-MIAC Honorable Mentions, 31 Academic All-MIAC players and one academic all-district player.

Prior to his head-coaching tenure at St. Kate's, Citowicki served as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Augsburg College in 2010. He also served as the assistant coach at Bemidji State University from 2006-08.

Citowicki played professionally for several years in Australia before coming to the U.S. to attend Lock Haven University, where he graduated in 2006. He also earned a master's degree in sport studies from Bemidji State University.

UND will immediately begin a national search for Citowicki's position.
