University of North Dakota junior captain Colton Poolman has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Defenseman of the Week after he took center stage in UND’s 3-1 win over Minnesota last Saturday in Las Vegas.
Poolman scored the game-tying and game-winning goals to lift the Fighting Hawks to victory over the Golden Gophers in the 2018 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game. The East Grand Forks, Minn., native knotted the game at 1-1 late in the second period and scored the eventual game-winner on the power play midway through the final frame.
It was the first multi-goal game of Poolman’s career and the first points of the season for the 2017-18 All-NCHC Honorable Mention. He was also a plus-2 against Minnesota with three shots on goal and one blocked shot.
Miami junior forward Gordie Green was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week, teammate Ryan Larking was the NCHC Goaltender of the Week, and St. Cloud State forward Sam Hentges was the NCHC Rookie of the Week.
Poolman and the Fighting Hawks return to action Nov. 2-3 when they host 16th-ranked Wisconsin at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
