Grand Forks Red River boys hockey coach Bill Chase has been placed on “indefinite administrative leave” from his coaching job.

That’s according to Grand Forks Public Schools Athletic Director Mark Rerick, who said the decision came from Grand Forks Public Schools administration.

The news comes hours before Red River plays its first game in the East Region Tournament this afternoon against West Fargo, a game that will air on KNOX at 4:30.

Rerick says he believes assistant coach John Dvorak will be Red River’s interim head coach.

Rerick said he could not comment on the reason for Chase’s status. Chase is in his 10th season as the Roughriders' head coach.
