Colton Poolman named UND Hockey MVP

Poolman received the Jeff Anderson Hockey Scholarship as team MVP after finishing in the top three of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Player of the Year voting. The junior defenseman scored five goals and added 12 assists for 17 points this past season.
The East Grand Forks, Minn., native was an All-NCHC honorable mention selection for the second consecutive season.
UND's other 2018-19 team award recipients included:
Cliff "Fido" Purpur Award: Cole Smith (Junior | Forward)
*Given to the player who exemplifies hard work, determination and being a creator of excitement on the ice
*Third on the team wit a +12 plus/minus rating, scored five goals and added 11 assists
Archie Krum Memorial Athletic Scholarship: Colton Poolman (Junior | Defenseman)
*Given to the player who demonstrates leadership qualities, high academic standards and athletic excellence
*Earned All-NCHC Honorable Mention accolades after collecting 17 points with just four penalty minutes all season.
Tom Hoghaug Memorial Scholarship: Jacob Bernard-Docker (Defenseman) and Mark Senden (Forward)
*Given to the freshman who demonstrates initiative, character and a sense of responsibility
*Bernard-Docker: Five goals and a dozen assists in 36 games
*Senden: Six goals, three game-winners, to go along with eight assists and a team-best +16 plus/minus
Rookie of the Year: Adam Scheel (Goalie)
*Won 13 games in net this season, including nine against nationally-ranked teams.
*9-6-1 with 1.69 GAA and a .931 save percentage against those teams.
*Named to NCHC's All-Rookie Team
Most Improved Player: Mark Senden (Freshman | Forward)
*Scored goals in two different games on the first shift
*Three game-winners, two first goals and a short-handed tally in his six goals
Coaches' Unsung Hero Award: Jordan Kawaguchi (Sophomore | Forward)
*Led team with 10 goals, 16 assists and 26 points
*Notched at least one point in 12 of the final 17 regular season games
Plus/Minus Award: Gavin Hain (Freshman | Forward) and Mark Senden (Freshman | Forward)
*Award is given to the player who leads the team in plus/minus rating
*Hain: Was a minus only once during the regular season, scored six goals
*Senden: Was +2 or better in seven different games this past season (UND 7-0-0)
Virg Foss 3-star Award: Rhett Gardner (Senior | Forward) and Adam Scheel (Freshman | Goalie)
*Awarded to the player that amasses the most points in 3-star voting at UND home games.
*Gardner: Two No. 1 stars (six points), and one each of No. 2 (two points) and No. 3 (one point).
*Scheel: Six total honors, three each at No. 2 (six points) and No. 3 (three points).
