Tourist Tax?

Tourist Tax?

Bad idea…that’s the gist of a letter sent to the north Dakota and Minnesota congressional delegations from officials at the grand forks / east grand forks chamber.   The letter opposes a department of homeland security budget study on whether to charge a five-dollar-50 cent border fee from Canadians who enter the u-s at land crossings.  Chamber president barry wilfahrt says the letter has the support of the executive committee.  Wilfahrt says canadian visitation is important to the local economy.

Minnesota u-s senator al Franken says it’s pointless to study something everyone already knows – the fee will hurt tourism and disrupt commerce.

Existing fees charged to air and seas travelers who enter the country could also go up under the plan.
