Nearly 200 union employees have gone on strike at the J.R. Simplot Co. potato processing plant along gateway Drivein Grand Forks after rejecting the company's contract offer.
The plant makes french fries and other potato products.
The union says the latest contract proposal would change work hours. The union also objects to an increase in health care premiums and a switch from a pension plan to a 401(k) plan.
The Idaho-based company said in a statement to The Associated Press that the proposed changes are necessary for "competitive best practices" and to create a better work environment.
