According to the state transportation department’s annual survey just under 78-percent of north dakotans wear their seat-belts. That compares to a national rate of 86-percent. in grand forks county the figure is even lower at less than 70-percent. women tend to do a better job than men of buckling-up. of the 16 selected counties observed in 2013 pembina county had a seat-belt rate of over 88-percent while mckenzie county came in at 54-percent. cass county hit 85-percent while burleigh 75-percent. according to the north dakota highway patrol 53-percent of the fatality victims in the state last year were not restrained.
