Motorists are more likely to crash into a deer in the Dakota’s and Minnesota than most other states.
The latest report by State Farm ranks all three states near the top in the annual ranking of deer-vehicle collisions. The insurer uses claims data and state licensed driver counts from the Federal Highway Administration.
The analysis ranks South Dakota sixth in the nation…Minnesota seventh…and North Dakota tenth. In fact the chances of hitting a deer is one in 74 in Minnesota and one in 87 in North Dakota.
Most crashes happen around dawn and dusk when deer are most often moving around.
