University Park - Tower

The fate of a communication tower in University Park in Grand Forks is on hold. The Grand Forks Planning and Zoning Commission tabled the request by Verizon Wireless last night pending additional information. A number of residents turned out for the meeting to express concerns about the aesthetics of a 70 foot tower in the park -despite company claims that it would look like a tree. Deputy City Planner Ryan Brooks says it might not be perfect but would help blend the tower into the background. Parks Director Bill Palmiscno says the Park District would be paid 12-thousand dollars annually and would reinvest that money back into the park.
The P-and-Z did approve Verizon towers at 3325 South Washington and in the Alerus Center parking lot.
