UND held its annual summer commencement Aug. 4.

Up to 300 of the eligible 500 graduates were expected to walk across the stage at Chester Fritz Auditorium to receive their degrees.

For the second consecutive year, Mark Hagerott, chancellor of the North Dakota University System, presided over the ceremony.

Hagerott told the graduates, "When you think about your education--you've gone from elementary school all the way on up--for those of you who came right into college, you're now on to Year 16, and you've become known for adaptation and moving through these different thresholds, and it's just an incredible accomplishment."

Hagerott was substituting for UND President Mark Kennedy. A university official said Kennedy was in Brazil, where his daughter and stepson live. Kennedy’s daughter recently gave birth to a girl.
