Three occupants of a compact car escaped injury when their vehicle was hit by a train early this (Fri) morning south of Page (ND).
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the car got stuck in a snow bank on a railroad crossing at Highway 38.
Around 3:15 AM, troopers say, the three occupants tried to push the car free, when a mile-long BNSF train approached. Despite using emergency brakes, the train was unable to stop, catapulting the car into the railroad right-of-way east of the highway.
Troopers say the three occupants—including a 20-year-old Texas man—moved away from the car before the collision. Two personnel on the train were also unharmed.
The railroad crossing was blocked for several hours after the crash.
Troopers say a no-travel advisory was in effect for eastern North Dakota at the time.
