The official end to summer this afternoon doesn’t put an end to the threat of summer type weather. The chance for severe storms exists again today. Storms are expected to develop during the mid-afternoon - with the best chances across the northern Red River Valley into the Lake of the Woods and Red Lake areas.
This summer has been another active one for storms throughout the region. The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued 144 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and 34 separate Tornado Warnings in their 35 county coverage area to date. That’s higher than the short term average – including in Grand Forks County.
Fall officially arrives at 3:02 this afternoon.
