The Sorlie Bridge could reopen to traffic sometime on Tuesday – but it’s not a given. Bridge inspectors with the North Dakota and Minnesota Department of Transportation are looking at the downtown river crossing today for signs of scouring – or erosion. On Tuesday a visual inspection is anticipated.
East Grand Forks crews will begin removing parts of the invisible flood wall today. The planks closing the bridge entrance on DeMers Avenue won’t come down until a successful inspection by MnDot.
Both Grand Forks and East Grand Forks officials say the reopening is also dependent on river levels in the coming days.
The Sorlie Bridge closed April 8th in anticipation of a 48 foot crest on the Red River. The river topped out at 46.87 feet late Thursday.
The “Red” is under 45 feet today – but could inch back over that mark later in the week.
