Pembina Co. - Pedestrian fatality

A Drayton woman was killed early Wednesday morning after she was hit by a car in rural Pembina County.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, 44-year-old Kammi Leland was a pedestrian on a gravel road southwest of Drayton.
Troopers say at about 1:00 AM, a 21-year-old Drayton man was driving on the road when he saw a man standing on the right side.The driver steered left to avoid the man, but then hit Leland, who was standing in the roadway.
Leland was taken by ambulance to a Grafton hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver and his passenger were uninjured, as was the male pedestrian..
The crash remains under investigation.
