“Operation H2GO.” a Leighton Broadcasting project aimed at getting fresh drinking water to victims of Hurricane Harvey, is off to a rousing start.
Listeners were asked to bring bottled water to a 53-foot trailer parked at Hugo’s on 32nd Av. S. on Tuesday, and within four hours, the truck was full. A second truck has been lined up for Wednesday.
KNOX afternoon host Brad Schmidt, who will drive the truck to Texas, said, “I see it as a way for Grand Forks to return the favor to communities around the country who were so helpful to us (during the Red River flood) back in 1997.”
Schmidt will drive the trailer to the Houston area to meet the Salvation Army and deliver the water. JA Hammonds is providing the tractor and trailer.
Wayno Transport and Todd's Trailer Sales have come through with a second truck. It will be at the 32nd Av. S. Hugo’s Wednesday, starting at noon.
Leighton Broadcasting’s Grand Forks-based stations are 1310 KNOX, 97KYCK, 104.3 CitiesFM, Z94.7, and 95.7 The Forks.
