NDUS - Memorial Union

The demolition of U-N-D’s Memorial Union will be allowed to proceed under action by the North Dakota Board of Higher Education this morning. Members agreed to issue up to 80-million dollars in bonds during a special meeting to finance a new building on the Grand Forks campus.
Construction was put on hold in late June in order to give interim U-N-D President Dr. Joshua Wynne more time to review the project. Wynne says he focused on four key areas – and he’s ready for work to begin.
U-N-D students voted in November to raise student fees to pay off the bond issue. Wynne says student debt was a concern but they've found ways to cut the proposed increase nearly in half.
Wynne says staff have also been able to identify some cost savings in the project.
Construction of the new Memorial Union is expected to take nearly two years to complete.
The board approved the construction on a 7-0 vote.
