Today (Friday) is the final day of Winter Weather Awareness Week in North Dakota. The state’s winter season usually begins in late November and continues until late March. On average North Dakota experiences three to four severe winter storms each year.
The National Weather Service refers to winter storms as the “Deceptive Killers” because most deaths are indirectly related to the storm. Instead, people die in traffic accidents on icy roads and of hypothermia from prolonged exposure to cold.
Minnesota will mark Winter Hazard Awareness Week starting November 14th.
