The North Dakota Supreme Court has denied a Nielsville, Minnesota, man’s request to withdraw his guilty plea.
In 2015, James Yahnke pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in connection with a high-speed, alcohol-related accident near Hillsboro that killed two female passengers in 2014.
The district court sentenced Yahnke to 20 years in jail with five years suspended.
In 2016, Yahnke petitioned the lower court for post-conviction relief, saying that his counsel was ineffective, and that the court erred in not allowing him to withdraw his guilty plea.
The court denied his request last April.
