After North Dakota’s Senate rejected a bill to raise the state gas tax from 23 to 27 cents a gallon, the State House has done the same.
The House on Wednesday heard a proposal that included a gas tax hike. Republican Representative Rick Becker of Bismarck urged a no vote.
"We don't have a revenue problem," Becker said. "We have a spending problem. We have an abundance of revenue from the state.
"Over the years, we've been ranked No. 1 of all the states in the nation for the amount of state revenue, tax revenue, per capita. We have to figure out how we can fund our roads, but raising taxes is not the proper way."
The measure failed on a vote of 77 to 15.
The Senate voted 26-to-18 against raising the gas tax.
