ND - High-speed Chase Ends in Fire

A Devils lake (ND) man faces numerous charges after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase on Sunday. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol James Smith-Jr was clocked going 102 miles per hour on Highway 2 near Larimore (ND) around 1:15 p-m. A trooper attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding when the driver refused to stop. The chase lasted about 15 minutes before the suspect vehicle entered a field and became stuck. Authorities say Smith fled the vehicle on foot and was captured a short time later. During the chase the suspect vehicle caught fire and was completely burned.
The Larimore Fire Department extinguished the blaze. Smith is charged with speeding…reckless endangerment…driving under suspension…fleeing…and resisting arrest.
