A total of 128 law enforcement officials from around the country died in the line of duty in 2017. That’s the lowest number of law enforcement fatalities in four years. Law agencies from throughout the region gathered in Grand Forks on Tuesday for the 8th annual Valley Police Memorial Service. Grand Forks States Attorney David Jones told the group that officers often find themselves in dangerous situations under great scrutiny.
At last night’s city council meeting the East Grand Forks Police Department retired the badge of Officer Ken Olson. Olson was killed while responding to a prowler call in 1978.
A statewide Peace Officer Memorial Service will be held on the Capitol grounds in Bismarck this afternoon (1:30 pm).
This week is designated as National Police Week.
