Residents within a half mile of a train crash in Minnesota’s Kandiyohi County were evacuated early this morning (Thursday). As many as 22 cars of a BNSF train jumped the tracks in Raymond (MN) around 1:00 a.m.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department says several of the tankers carrying ethanol and a corn syrup liquid caught fire. Residents who had nowhere to go were housed at an emergency shelter in nearby Prinsburg (MN).
Authorities say there have been no injuries. BNSF officials are on the scene. Highway 23 which runs through Raymond has been closed in both directions.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the derailment.
