Groundbreaking ceremonies were held today for the 42 unit LaGrave on First project. The four story building will cost around nine-million dollars and provide housing and supportive services for individuals who experience chronic homelessness. The Grand Forks Housing Authority is a co-developer and will serve as property manager. Executive Director Terry Hanson says studies show housing – if provided first - gives tenants a better chance of being productive and getting the services they need.
The North Dakota Housing Finance Agency is providing the bulk of the funding. The ity of Grand Forks donated the land and chipped in 335-thousand dollars in HOME program dollars.
Rent will be the equivalent of 30-percent of income. The project is located near the downtown on the site of LaGrave Park. Construction is expected to take up to a year to complete.
