The Kennedy Bridge in East Grand Forks will be reduced to one lane in both directions beginning Tuesday, June 25, as inspection crews work to complete the two-year restoration project. The lane reduction is expected to last through Thursday, June 27.

During the lane closure, an 11-foot width-restriction will be in effect. Motorists can expect delays and should obey traffic control.

The Kennedy Bridge has been under construction as part of a two-year reconstruction project. In December, the bridge was reopened to four lanes of traffic. There are no detours and/or long-term traffic restrictions anticipated in 2019, but motorists can expect temporary traffic restrictions as crews finish up the project.

The Kennedy Bridge was built in 1963 and currently serves 23,000 vehicles per day. Along with preserving the historic nature of the bridge, the project improves safety for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.

The $15.66 million project is a joint design of MnDOT, the North Dakota Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
