North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says she’ll seek a second term in the U.S. Senate.
Heitkamp, a Democrat who narrowly won her seat in 2012, had been widely expected to make another run.
The 61-year old Heitkamp has stockpiled three-million dolalrs for what’s expected to be an expensive re-election campaign. .
State Sen. Tom Campbell is the only candidate declared so far on the Republican side. U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer is also weighing a run.
I’m running for reelection to the U.S. Senate because I care too much about North Dakota not to run. Every day I come to the U.S Senate, I’m fighting for North Dakota workers, families, and retirees to make sure our communities are strong and safe. That goal has never wavered.
Far too often in Congress, extreme views on the right and left get all the attention. I believe that you get results by talking with and working with those on either side of the aisle. That’s the North Dakota way. It’s for that reason that I’ve been able to accomplish a great deal for our state.
