GFPD: Body found in Red River

By Doug Barrett May 15, 2022 | 9:09 AM

A body has been recovered from the Red River near the north side pedestrian bridge.

The Grand Forks Police Department was notified of a deceased person caught in a log jam around 6:00 p.m.  When officers arrived they confirmed the witness report and began a recovery process to extract the subject from the water.

The body was removed from the area and transported to the UND Pathology lab for further examination.

The recovery process was led by the Grand Forks Fire Department and the Grand Forks County Sheriffs Office Water Rescue Team, along with Altru Ambulance and the Grand Forks Police.

In early April water rescue teams searched the River after a caller stated they spotted someone swimming from the shoreline north of the Sorlie Bridge.  Law enforcement suspended the search when they failed to locate the individual.  There were also no active missing person reports that matched the information provided.

Anyone with information relating to this situation is asked to call the Grand Forks Police at 701-787-8000
