Another sure sign that colder weather is not that far off. The Grand Forks council approved bids last night for rock salt to help keep streets free of ice and snow this winter. H-and-H Trucking of Minot submitted the apparent low bid at over 59-thousand dollars. The salt will be mixed with sand. Public Works Director LeahRae Amundson says keeping roads safe during the cold weather season is a challenge - and the city is constantly trying new things to see what works. Amundson says new products coming out this season are designed to less corrosive without sacrificing melting capabilities.
The council also gave preliminary approval to an agreement with the North Dakota D-O-T that paves the way for the reconstruction of North 42nd Street. Bids on the six-point-nine million dollar project will be opened in mid-November.
