There’s been a lot less slapping going on in Grand Forks this summer. The health department has only had to launch five ground sprays for mosquitoes this year – the last one was July 27th. The department’s top skeeter fighter Todd Hanson says trap counts this summer have been the lowest since 1995. Hanson says dry conditions have helped keep the bugs in check. He says the local department pulled the plug on counting mosquitoes for the season yesterday.
No human cases of West Nile Virus were identified in Grand Forks this summer. The state identified 57 human cases of the mosquito-borne disease. In 2003 North Dakota recorded 617 cases of W-N-V.
